Thuner

This is a local craft brewery in Thun, Switzerland. This one is a lager apparently, 5.2% alcohol.

I have only had it once, in a bar in Thun in September 2016. No memory of what it was like unfortunately. Thun is a very pretty place so maybe I’ll return there some day and check this beer out again.

Feldschlösschen Brewery

This is one of the best-known breweries in Switzerland, and the biggest. It is now part of the Carlsberg group.

They make a range of beers; I’ve had the ones described below, mostly in canned form but once on tap. All are damn fine beers.

All are 5% alcohol content which suits me. All are lagers.

Honey colour, very refreshing.

To be honest, I couldn’t tell much difference between the various versions but all were good.

7/10

Their beers should get extra points for having the most spectacular brewery in Europe!

Valaisanne

As the name suggests, this brewery in located in the Valais in Switzerland, specifically in the city of Sion.

Like many breweries this one has a restaurant attached to it, which gets very good reviews online. It’s on my bucket list to check it out.

They make an extensive range of beers; the one I’ve had on tap was the lager.

It was quite a long time ago that I had this beer but I’m in the process of trying to get some online so as to update my opinion of it.

4.8% alcohol content, fairly light but fine with me. Maybe it was the surroundings, but my memory of this one is very positive; I’m going to hold off with a rating until I can taste it again.

Altes Tramdepot

It all begins with an idea.

A quirky brewery and restaurant in what apparently was formerly literally a tram depot, in Bern. It’s next to the (new) bear park.

Have only been there once, in August 2018, when I had a meal and a couple of their Helles (lagers) on tap. For some reason I know it’s 5.2% alcohol, but that’s all.

Like other beers on here, although I have photos etc of the beer and the brewery, I didn’t take any notes, so can’t really comment. On the list to re-visit and take more notice.

Volg

It all begins with an idea.

This is a bit out of left field: Volg is a chain of small grocery stores in Switzerland and they sell a brand of beer under their own name.

In 2013 we were camping in a part of Switzerland called Goms, near a town called Reckingen. I bought the beer at a local shop (it must have been a Volg store) and didn’t take any notice of it. Only later did I realise that it is their own beer.

The one I had was a lager. 4.8% alcohol so to my taste in that regard.

Like most of the beers posted in this section, I have no notes so can’t really comment on what it was like, but from the fact that we were camped in the same place for a number of days and this is the only beer I purchased while there, I can safely assume it was perfectly drinkable.
