So a while ago I posted a post entitled Looking for the Lost Boys (Beers) about beers I had drunk in various places in the past, but had never been able to find them again to be able to include them on this blog.
I can announce that, with a combination of a generous German friend and an unexpected trip into Germany in August, I have been able to locate a good many of the German beers that I had not been able to find, and can include them here.
The first post will be about the beers that my friend brought to me; I will post separately about the beers that I found on the trip in Germany last month.
The first is Hatz Pils; I had this once in Baden-Baden back in 2014. My friend was able to source some online in Germany and included them in the cache he brought to my place. It’s a pale colour, not a great head but fair lacing; 4.9% alcohol. I had no memory of what it was like last time but it turns out to be quite bitter - a little too much so for me.

This is another one from the past, Lasser Pils. Had this on tap a long time ago (2013) in a small town called Goerwihl. Have never seen it since. Bottle courtesy of my German friend. Had no memory of it from the other time, but liked it; 5% alcohol, light honey colour, although not much lacing, very refreshing, definitely one to look out for.

This one is a double: Tegernseer Hell. I have had it only once before, in 2023, in a bottle. Mate brought several bottles and then, as luck would have it, I encountered it during the trip into Germany in August.
First photo is me enjoying the bottled version in the garden of my house in France recently; second photo is having one on tap at Gasthaus Alter Wirt in a town called Farchant in Germany.
Light colour, reasonable head & lacing. Alcohol content 4.8%. Pleasant & refreshing but doesn’t knock your socks off.

Another double: Arcobrau Moos Helles; same situation as for the Tegernseer. I have a record of having it on tap somewhere in Germany in 2016 but no record of where or my opinion of it at that time. Had also had it in bottled form a couple of other times since.
Mate brought a few bottles to my place in August, then I found it on tap on my trip in Germany in August, at Café de Sandro in a town called Freising.
Nice colouring, good head & lacing. Alcohol content of 5.3% which is in my preferred range.
Very refreshing, not startling but very drinkable and one to look out for.

Another blast from the past: Hasseroder Pils. Had it in bottled form back in 2014 in Germany but made no notes. Mate was able to bring a bottle recently so I can now give it its proper due.
Nice coulouring, good head & lacing. 4.9% alcohol is good for me. Refreshing, a touch bitter and, while not outstanding, a very pleasant beer and one I would seek out again.
